Parents of lost babies and potential of all kinds: come here to share the technicolour, the vividness, the despair, the heart-broken-open, the compassion we learn for others, having been through this mess — and see it reflected back at you, acknowledged and understood.

Thanks to photographer Xin Li and to artist Stephanie Sicore for their respective illustrations and photos.

ttc | pregnancy | birth after loss > panicking over my stupidity

ok, i'm pretty sure i'm worrying over nothing.... my midwife said so, and i think i know it myself. but please can i hear it from someone else too?

our car got stuck in the snow this morning. i helped my husband to push it back onto the pavement so we could leave it there and go and get the bus.

was pushing a car a crazy, crazy, stupid thing to do while 10 weeks pregnant??????????

my scan is due on thursday and i'm already convinced that they'll just tell us that the baby has died :( this really isn't helping.

Pushing cars when pregnant does not affect the baby, I had to push start a car two weeks before I was due with my second and can report no ill effects. Normal pregnancies are really very tough and there is not much you can do that would affect them, if anything goes wrong you can be assured that it was nothing to do with anything you have done...try and relax and good luck with your scan xxx

B,
If you didn't spot or cramp the event is insignificant. And even if you did spot or cramp, I would not believe the two to be related. I would have pushed the car too. I believe you are safe.

I echo Frustrated Fairy...

Strenuous exercise does not cause m/c. I have had two extremely complicated pregnancies...and it truly amazes me to see 'normal' pregnant friends jollying around, lifting things, squatting, heck even WALKING and having perfectly normal and healthy pregnancies.

I wish for you that your pregnancy will be as boringly normal as they get.

I had Josie when I had 3 other under 6's who needed carrying about, hefting about and goodness knows what - and I was running a business where I carried boxes up and down. I know it is hard for all of us t believe, but a womb is an incredibly safe place to be for a baby, especially a small baby. You didn't do anything silly.

thank you all. i do *know* this with my head.... i guess it's just the fear of what we will hear on thursday that has made me quite so scared today. i can't imagine the baby being alive when we go for the scan, and after being fairly confident (well, fairly confident considering this is pregnancy after loss, anyway) up til this point it's really hard to deal with being so scared that we've already lost this baby too :(

ah well. less than 72 hours, i guess.

I'm sure you're fine! I did the same thing while pregnant with Charlotte. My nephew was two and I picked him up one day, toted him around while we went out for breakfast. Then I just thought... "what in the world did you do that for?" And that was my first pregnancy, so no reference of what was right or wrong.

And I feel like I did everything completely right the first time... what did I get for that? Don't drive yourself nuts second guessing your actions. I'm sure you're fine. Your body would have told you if you couldn't handle it. The stress alone will just make it worse. Hoping all goes well on Thursday!

B, I hope you have been able to stop worrying (about the pushing the car at least). I just wanted to add one more story. In my pregnancy with my living child, we renovated the majority of our house starting when I was 6 months pregnant. (had to get it all done before the baby arrived and had to wait for spring to start) I knocked down a wall and carried the new hardwood we were installing and moved furniture around too. When you are blissfully ignorant you can do all kinds of things and not worry about hurting your baby. (Although I did worry that she was going to have hearing damage because of the air nailer we used for the floors, but she is fine.)

Just one more day to wait for your scan.
