ttc | pregnancy | birth after loss > Femara?

Hi girls- I posted in the weekly thread but wanted to post here as well- has anyone used it for short LP? Many thanks if you have info....

I got my first AF after Cullen's birth on Sunday- except it was not due until Friday! 8 day LP- not awesome. I may be taking femara this cycle- I have to decide today as it is CD 3.
Has anyone else used it? Just wondering..... I know it helps with OV (in 'normal' cycles I always OV late- like day 22!) and now this crazy short LP has me all up in a tizzy.....

I don't have info on Femara but I wanted to chime in that my lp was short for about 4 months pp until we did get pregnant. I don't know if it was the supplements I was taking or that my body needed the extra time before it could support a pregnancy, but we did catch.

Just a story that may or may not apply. :)

Leslie,
I have taken femara for 2 cycles to possibly create more ovules and lead to a more forceful ovulation. I have taken it along with clomid which is also an estrogen receptor blocker and for me it bumped my ovulation date back one. So day 13 instead of 12.
My LP was still 14 days so unchanged. It was explained to me that femara is a softer drug than clomid but still leads to many pregnancies.
Ask the prescriber what the impact will be.-It's tough to wade through internet information. I say you try it and see...
Good luck,

I have taken about every fertility drug available...Femara wasn't so bad (unfortunately, didn't work for me...but that's not the point). My only side-effect was a migraine headached (MUCH better than the days and days of hotflashes and crazy mood swings with Clomid). Be warned, Femara is used for breast cancer...so I started receiving all these 'living with cancer' mailers from my insurance company!

For me, Femara made my cycle REALLY short (not so much the LP, but the beginning phase)...so just be warned. I think I O'd on like day 10-12. Best way to check for ovluation is to examine your CF (cervical fluid) or monitor temps IMO. Clomid elongated my cycle quite a bit.

Sounds like Femara might be a good fit for you...my understanding is that there are much fewer chances for multiples with Femara (and of course, pregnancy complications) as well.

Wishing you much success and very soon!

Thank you all very much for the information.
Eve- thanks for the heads up on the short cycle. I temp, use OPK's, and watch my CP and CF so I will be sure to ay close attention- maybe start the OPK's early.
The reason I am on it is for the short LP- do you recall if it made your LP any longer? It is really interesting that the clomid made your cycle longer- I had assumed that both drugs created more of a standard 28 day cycle. Thank you again for all of the info....

Update- finished the last dose last night- absolutely no side effects that I have noticed so now I will wait and see if helps me OV at a more normal time and if it does anything for the LP. I could really use a little 'normal' right now.

GL Leslie!

If I remember, it didn't change my LP (always about 13-14 days for me)...just made the early part 10-12 days instead of 14-16 days. Clomid made my pre-O like 16-20 days!!!! Glad you haven't had any SE...all in all Femara can be a wonder drug for many. I really hope that it works for you!

Holy snow Eve- 16-20 on Clomid! WTH!? OB was talking about using it for next month- my gut says no way- with this info and the cyst possibility as well as thinning the lining I think I will ask to stay on femara if I need to keep trucking- although you know I will be hoping for a rest stop that has 9 month stays....
thanks so much....
