Parents of lost babies and potential of all kinds: come here to share the technicolour, the vividness, the despair, the heart-broken-open, the compassion we learn for others, having been through this mess — and see it reflected back at you, acknowledged and understood.

Thanks to photographer Xin Li and to artist Stephanie Sicore for their respective illustrations and photos.

ttc | pregnancy | birth after loss > Fainting

I've had no MS at all so far (9weeks) which was been freaking me out. Today I was in the yard with DH and fainted. It never happened to me in my pregnancy with Matilda. Just wondering if anyone else has had this? From the looks of it, it's reasonably common.

Am making a more concerted effort to drink enough water and eat regularly.

Yikes, Maddie. That is scary. I almost fainted several times when I was pregnant with my first child. (I never actually did, but literally had times where I had to squat down on the floor of the grocery store!!). Strangely, that never happened to me in my other two pregnancies. I think that sometimes the uterus presses against blood vessels and that can constrict the flow of blood to the brain (at least, that is what I remember reading).

Of course, if you are concerned, it can't hurt to ask you doctor about it.

Oh no! I hope you didn't hurt yourself. I'm a fainter by nature (though I've never fainted while pregnant). I have extremely low blood pressure...and actually remember that doing yard work was one of my triggers while pregnant with my ds. I kept leaning down to scoop up leaves and weeds, and when I would stand up, I kept seeing black (b/c the blood hadn't made it back up yet). Are you 20 weeks? I think about that time your blood doubles in volume, causing blood pressure to decrease.

Please take it easy and let us know what your doc says.

No more fainting!

Thanks for the replies. Spoke to an ob (mine wasn't on call this morning) and she said it's very normal and not to panic. Just make sure I'm drinking and eating enough so making more of an effort to drink more water. It's just started to cool down here (we're heading into winter here) so I might not have been drinking as much water.

I've fainted in the past when not pregnant and was having a lot of dizzy spells around Christmas time.

I didn't hit anything because DH was standing beside me and caught me.

Slightly ironic because last time round I had trouble with high blood pressure....
