Parents of lost babies and potential of all kinds: come here to share the technicolour, the vividness, the despair, the heart-broken-open, the compassion we learn for others, having been through this mess — and see it reflected back at you, acknowledged and understood.

Thanks to photographer Xin Li and to artist Stephanie Sicore for their respective illustrations and photos.

parenting after loss > Photo sharing

Carrie,

I have been looking into photo sharing websites to see if there is a way that we could create a space for people to post pictures of their babies (living and deceased) and have it be somewhat private. I am not coming up with much. I do know that on Facebook you can create a private group that an administrator can determine who can join and see content etc, but that a lot of BLMs avoid FB, also any pictures posted to Facebook belong to Facebook and can be used without permission. If anyone more tech savy than myself has any ideas please reply!

Hello, i know that there is a function for private group photo sharing on flickr.com. That might work. Group members need to be registered with flickr, but it is free. Have not looked into it how exactly it works, but i know there is an option for invitation only groups.

I was thinking that Flickr would be our best option. It would still require someone to administer it but would allow for more anonymity than Facebook and would be a place people who did not want to venture to Facebook could still come. People would need to have a Flickr account but it seems more reasonable to me to set up a specific Flickr for this than to set up a whole new FB. I'm willing to set one up and get people initially connected but I don't know how willing I am to moderate/administer on an ongoing basis since I would have to set up another email account and remember to monitor that, etc. I don't trust myself to do that regularly. Maybe I'm just underestimating myself. :-). I manage to read Glow every day, after all.

Thanks for the replies. I looked around Flickr and it does say Admins pleural, so I would be willing to help administrate Carrie. I apparently have a Flickr account from another lifetime and it is linked to an old yahoo account of mine. If you are game to partner up just let me know (here or you can e-mail me at amandavarney29ATyahooDOTcom.

Just to chime in, I've often wished Glow had a way to share pictures that was somewhat protected (it was so wonderful to see the photos BWell collected and shared last year, for example). I'd love to see this as an option for those who come to Glow.

Okay I created a private group on Flickr called Glow in the Woods Gallery, it can be found at www.flickr.com/groups/glowpictures. If any on wants to join I can e-mail you an invitation or you can request to join through Flickr.

Great!! Will request access right away. Thank you so much for organizing this, Carrie and Amanda! Wonderful idea!

I'd like to join but don't see the place to click there. I'll email you, Grace's Mom, from my email address.

I'd like to join, too, but can't see a link there, either!
June 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterChristine's Mom
Hmmm I am not sure what went wrong, but just e-mail me your Flickr name or e-mail address and I can invite you from group page in Flickr.

Awesome!! I just set up a Flickr account for this purpose. When you try to go to the link provided above, it shows that its a private group and we cannot view it. I think people have to be invited specifically (which is probably safest). My handle is carrieglow. I'm happy to help administer but suggest people email both Graces Mom and I for invite requests (if she adds me) because I'm not likely to open that email very often. carrieglow at yahoo.

Okay so I think that I have got this figured out. If you want to join send me your Flickr handle or the e-mail address you used to set up your Flickr account and then I can send you an invitation to join the group. I am so excited to see pictures of every ones babies!

Such a beautiful idea. I'd love to join if you could email me too please Danielle241011@ Gmail. Com

We are posting pictures of any of our children here, right? I don't want to upset anyone by posting pictures of the boys (but that's how this conversation started). I will also post photos of Alice for sure. Just want to make sure. Right now, there are only pictures of Amanda's Grace up.
June 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCarrie
Wait. I see that we already discussed this. I'll put my photos of the boys in there right now. I need to download the Alice photos to this computer before I can get them up on Flickr. :-)

Just joined and added a few pictures. Thanks again for setting this up - I loved seeing the pictures! I didn't see this topic on the for one and all page - would it be appropriate to post there, with a disclaimer that the group includes photos of living children?

I will post on the for one and all page now that everything is set up and there seems to be a lot of interest. Thanks for making this project come to be ladies!

Graces mom,
Can you send me an invite through my blog? I know you read it
June 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterEm (Eva's mama)
Em, unfortunately the only way that Flickr can send an invite is with your Flickr handle or your e-mail address. Sorry!
June 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGrace's Mom
This is wonderful. I would love to join and see all of your babies. My email is julie.warnke@gmail.com
Thank you!

Julie - I sent you an invite. You might have to join Flickr if you are not already a member.

Oh Amanda and Carrie, thank you so much for going this! I've been wanting for so long to see everyone's babies and for all at Glow to see pictures of mine!

My email is mrittikasen(at)gmail(dot)com. I'll set up a Flickr handle and email both of you.

Thank you, thank you!!

Love and hugs to you and your babies,
Mrittika

If anyone else is interested in joining, we would love to have you! I've found that the easiest way for us to invite someone is which a Flickr account name. We can send an email invite, but that invite is just to join Flickr. After that, you have to get an account name and send it to us. So, if you create an account first and then email either Amanda or me (carrieglow at yahoo), we can get you hooked up quickly.

Thanks all! It's been fun seeing pictures of peoples' kids. :-). I'd love to see more folks participate if you are interested.

I, too, have loved seeing the pictures and would love to see more people participate. Is it at all possible to create some sort of link in the sidebar, so the posts in the forums about the Flikr group and how to join don't get buried and forgotten, particularly for those new to Glow who may not read old posts?
