Parents of lost babies and potential of all kinds: come here to share the technicolour, the vividness, the despair, the heart-broken-open, the compassion we learn for others, having been through this mess — and see it reflected back at you, acknowledged and understood.

Thanks to photographer Xin Li and to artist Stephanie Sicore for their respective illustrations and photos.

for one and all > Happy Birthday August

You would be three today. How times flies, and yet nothing changes. you are away from us. We still wish for you everyday, we wish to change history. Your brother Mars is one now. I wish to hold you both in the same sentence, yet somehow that seems impossible. The eternal presence of your absence. We love you August. We look for you everywhere, and we are so happy with what time we had with you, but we ache for you endlessly.

Dear Danielle,
I love how you said “how time flies but nothing changes” so beautiful and so painfully true. I recognize that time has continued on but so has your love for your child, and that encourages me to know that time might lessen the pain but it doesn’t have to diminish my love or my longing for my baby.

Happy birthday August, and hugs to you and your family Danielle,
Rachel
