Parents of lost babies and potential of all kinds: come here to share the technicolour, the vividness, the despair, the heart-broken-open, the compassion we learn for others, having been through this mess — and see it reflected back at you, acknowledged and understood.

Thanks to photographer Xin Li and to artist Stephanie Sicore for their respective illustrations and photos.

for one and all > Nurgh :(

MY dd4 has chicken pox. I could seriously do without having another child to fret about right now. And knowing it is a normal childhood disease isn't going to cut it either as my dd3 ended up in hospital with chicken pox, on a drip and with onset septicaemia . Luckily she was fine but it did rather knock for six that children are normally "fine" - which Freddie definitely finished off for good :(

Argh, sometimes.... argh.

Merry,

Has your child been immunized? The reason I ask is that if she was, she is less likely to be infected with a strain that causes serious problems (infection ect) and more likely to be a self limiting strain (pain in the ass but not threatening to health.) The immunization covers around 80% of the strains, the remaining 20% that circuulate communities are usually not serious.

Regardless of her immunization status, my intention is to reassure you. The odds are she will be fine. I know you know that- all reason is altered once we are hit with odds that were mind blowing. (Your loss of Freddie.) It's o.k. to be stressed out. I understand completely.

The UK doesn't immunise against chicken pox. I did consider it after how ill Amelie was but decided I was over-reacting - Amelie had severe eczema at the time and impetigo and the three things went into meltdown together. Which is why I know Josie will be fine really but like you say, it doesn't help *hollow laugh*

My other kids are fretting. *breathe*

Thank you for the sympathy :)

She's been fortunately not too poorly at all, although very spotty. Poor small thing.

It's heartbreaking to see the way the others get upset and anxious every time I check her over or even give her a cuddle if she feels poorly though :(
